Bookplate for John Thomas Lee
Bookplates
A pictorial-style bookplate in black ink on ivory paper with a border featuring floral motifs. Banners on the right and left sides of the frame bear the names Champlain, Hennepin, Lahontan, Columbus, Cabot, and Cartier. The image in the frame is of a man in indigenous American garb looking out to see, where there is a sailing ship and a setting or rising sun. The man is holding a bow and has a quiver of arrows strapped to his back. In the foreground are three books, and above the sun is a map of Central and North America with coat-of-arms divided into many parts in the top left corner. Below the image is a scroll with the text "Ex libris John Thomas Lee."
