A heraldic-style bookplate in black ink on ivory paper. The shield is divided into five parts, alternating black and sable, with a sable diagonal sable stripe from top left to lower right. It is topped by a sitting lion with a collar and chain. Beneath is a banner reading “In vinculis etiam audax” which loosely translates from Latin to “Even in bonds be bold.” At the bottom is the name Francis L.
