Excerpted from The Portsmouth Guide Book, 1896, by Sarah Haven Foster...

"Built about 1760 by Dr. Haven, who was pastor of the South Parish from 1752 to 1806. Dr. Haven was born in Framingham, Mass., in 1727. He was a warm patriot and an exemplary pastor. He dies in 1806, his wife surviving him but a few hours.
The house was originally a two-story building with a gambrel rood. It was altered to its present form early in this century. An elm, more than a hundred years old, stood in front of it until within a few years."
