Bookplate for Joseph Swift Whistler
Date Unknown / Creator Unknown
Collection: The Helen Pearson Bookplate Collection
A heraldic-style bookplate in black ink on ivory paper with a line border. The shield is divided into two fields with a slanted stripe with a diamond pattern between them. Each field bears a rampant lion facing left. The shield is surrounded by mantling and topped with a helmet bearing a harp with a winged female figure as the harp's pillar, which is a symbol of Ireland. A banner beneath reads "Justitia et fidelis" which loosely translates from Latin to "Justice and faith." Beneath is the text "Ex libris Joseph Swift Whistler."
