Collection: The Helen Pearson Bookplate Collection
A heraldic-style institutional bookplate in black ink on ivory paper featuring the second seal of Queen Elizabeth, which was used from 1586 to 1603. The seal depicts the queen in Tudor garments, flanked by the royal arms and Tudor roses. An inscription around the seal reads "Elizabetha dei gracia Anglie Francie et Hibernie Regina Fidei Defensor," which translates from Latinto "Elizabeth, by grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith." A scroll beneath the seal reads "The Elizabethan Club, Yale University." "Hovey Collection" is handwritten on the back in pencil.
