The woman is holding a torch aloft and leading the child by the hand towards a building. At the top of the arch is the text "School for the Blind, Overbrook Pennsylvania," and at the bottom is the library's name. Above the arch are two mer-children flanking a medallion that reads "Lux ex tenebris," which translates to "Light from the darkness."
