A heraldic-style institutional bookplate in black ink on ivory paper with a decorative border. The top half of the bookplate features a closed book lying on its side with a laurel wreath above it. Inside the wreath is a simple shield with a white chevron and three heraldic knots, and on either side is the text, "Ex Libris." Additional text on the bottom half of the bookplate reads, "Academae Exoniensis, Ex dono Francisci Bowen,” which translates from Latin to "Exeter Academy, by the gift of Francis Bowen."
