1929 / Creator Unknown

2_54_Morse.jpg

A heraldic-style bookplate in black ink on white paper with a double line border. On the shield are an axe and three circles on a sable field, and it is topped by a wreath with two crossed axes. There is elaborate mantling on either side, and a banner reading "In Deo non armis fido," which loosely translates from Latin to "In God's arms." At the top of the frame is an eagle with wings spread and a banner with the dates 1776 - 1861 - 1971. Between the eagle and the shield is the text "Ex libris" and "Books are true friends." At the bottom is the name Charles P. Morse, and a handwritten note in pencil in the corner reads "Ipse fecit, 1929."
