Bookplate for Wake Forest College
post-1931 / L.M. Patten, Del.
A heraldic-style institutional bookplate in black ink on ivory paper with a border made of multiple lines that appear to be bound together with x's in eight places. In the center is the college seal, which is a simplified shield bearing the Chi-Rho symbol flanked by Alpha and Omega. Beneath the shield is a banner reading "Pro humanitate," and around the border of the shield is the college's name and the date 1834. Additional text beneath reads "In memory of Hubert Evans, Class of 1898, 187-1931." Handwritten on back of the bookplate is “Hovey Coll. Patch. "The bookplate is accompanied by a handwritten note that reads "A.B. & A.M. 1898; Wake Forest College North Carolina. Ph.D. 1902, Univ. of Hepzeig; L.L.B. 1915 Columbia; Had this designed by a student here when I presented his books to his Alma Mater.”
